Nogoa Mackenzie Water Supply Scheme (Auction) 

Sunwater has 200 megalitres (ML) of water available for temporary trade in the Nogoa Mackenzie Water Supply Scheme (NMWSS) from a Sunwater-held high priority water allocation.  

The available water will be auctioned in parcels on the Water Exchange platform Thursday 13 March 2025 as per the details outlined in the table below.  

Water purchased will be available for use in the 2024-25 water year ending 30 June 2025.

Things to note

  • The above auction links are live on the Water Exchange with varied closing times (hourly between 9:00am – 1:00pm) on Thursday 13 March 2025.  
  • Sunwater is setting a starting bid price of $110 per ML.   
  • Customers are encouraged to register an account with Water Exchange by Tuesday 11 March 2025if they wish to participate. Customers can register via the Water Exchange website or by contacting Lincoln Parr using the contact details provided below.   
  • For customers who would like to place a bid and don’t have access to the internet, please make contact with Water Exchange so alternative arrangements can be made.  
  • The volumes are located in NMWSS Zone G and may be transferred to river offtakes between Zones B-N subject to zone caps and operational approval.  
  • Customers should contact Fairbairn Irrigation Network (FIN) if they wish to access volumes from the channel.   
  • This water can be purchased by existing Sunwater contract holders with an active offtake in NMWSS Zones E-N subject to zone caps.  
  • New Sunwater customers, or customers without an existing offtake, please contact Sunwater on 13 15 89, Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.30pm prior to bidding.  
  • Sunwater customers can apply for their unused volume as carryover at the end of each water year. Carryover application conditions for the Nogoa Mackenzie scheme can be found on page 2 of the Applications for Carryover here

After the auction

  • At the close of each auction, Water Exchange will provide a Temporary Transfer application form and invoice for payment to the highest bidder.  
  • Water Exchange will submit the completed form and payment to Sunwater, who will then transfer the water volume to the purchaser.  
  • The purchased allocation will be available for use in the 2024-25 water year (ending 30 June 2025) and will be added to your existing eligible water allocation

Purchase price, fees and charges

The final purchase price for the allocations will be determined by the market via the Water Exchange auction process.

Additional fees and changes applicable to the temporary trade process include: 

  • Brokerage fee of 1.1% (inc GST) of the purchase price 
  • Water Exchange processing fee of $55.00 (inc GST).
