Pioneer River Weirs & Barrages
History
Pioneer River Weirs
Marian Weir was constructed in 1952 to supply Marian Sugar Mill and irrigators in the region. Mirani Weir followed and was built to provide additional yield for downstream irrigators and provide a pumping pool for diversions to Kinchant Dam. Dumbleton Weir was then constructed and upgraded twice for urban water supply before Teemburra Dam was built in 1997.
The scheme now provides water for irrigation at Palm Creek and Cattle Creek, urban water supply for Mackay and surrounding townships and industrial purposes.
