Water trading board FAQ

Water trading board FAQ

What is the water trading board?

Sunwater has worked with the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water to deliver elements of the Queensland Water Markets Optimisation (QWMO) action plan which seeks to improve Queensland’s water markets. The action plan is available to view here.

To support one of the initiatives set out in the QWMO strategy: Connect water users with water brokerage, Sunwater has launched an online water trading board to connect water users with water brokerage.

The platform enables listings of supplemented water across Sunwater’s Water Supply Schemes, making it easier to connect Sunwater customers and non-customers, who are looking to buy or sell water.

Do I need to be a Sunwater customer to access the platform?

No, the Sunwater Water Trading Board is available to non-customers as well as existing Sunwater customers across all customer segments.

How do I log in?

Existing Sunwater customers can use their Sunwater Online ID and password to log in. If you are an existing Sunwater customer and would like to register for Sunwater Online, contact Customer Support on 13 15 89.
Non-Sunwater customers can log into the platform using a one-time code that will be emailed to the user.

Can people see my personal details when I publish a listing to buy or sell water?

Before creating an account, users can see all listing information excluding the contact phone number for the listing.
Sunwater has ensured that the full phone number will only be displayed once a user has verified themselves using their existing Sunwater customer information or by creating an account and verifying their email address.

Why can’t I see the full phone number to be able to contact someone about their listing?

To view the full phone number on a listing, a user must verify themselves using their existing Sunwater customer information or by creating an account and verifying their email address.

Do I need to create a listing to be able to contact someone?

No. Once you have created an account, if you see a listing aligning to your water needs you can contact the poster of the listing.

I don’t have a mobile phone or email address. Can I still create a listing?

Both an email address and phone number are required when creating a listing on the water trading board. An email address is required for Sunwater Customer Support to communicate to the user whether their listing is approved to go live or if it requires modifications to the listing information. A phone number is required in order for other interested buyers or sellers to contact you regarding your listing.

How do I process the sale or purchase of water through the Sunwater Water Trading Board?

The water trading board provides a platform to connect buyers and sellers of water but will not enable the official sale of water. The standard process of completing a Sunwater form or using the Sunwater Online customer portal to process the sale still stands.

Why can’t I manage the payment between the buyer/seller myself?

Transfer of monies between a buyer and seller should not be made until the correct Sunwater process has been followed and the transfer approved by Sunwater Customer Support (in which case, the buyer and seller will be notified).
Any transfer of money between the buyer and the seller before this process is complete is made at their own risk.

Why was my listing rejected?

A listing may be rejected for a number of reasons including the seller’s water account not showing enough water to complete the sale, incorrect listing details, etc. Sunwater Customer Support will provide feedback to the user on why their listing is rejected as part of the workflow process.

How do I edit my listing?

Users can edit their listing by logging into the platform, navigating to My Listings and selecting ‘Edit’. Once resubmitting the listing, the form will again by submitted to the Sunwater Customer Support team for review.

How do I remove my listing?

Users can edit their listing by logging into the platform, navigating to My Listings and selecting ‘Delete’. Listings will also be removed from the ‘All listings’ page.

My login verification code is not working.

If your one-time login code that is emailed to the address supplied on the water trading board login page is not working, your one-time code may have expired. The code remains active for 15 minutes. Users should try refreshing the webpage and completing the process again.

When will I know if my listing is on the bulletin board?

When Sunwater Customer Support approves the listing, users will receive an email stating the listing is approved and now live on the site.

How long does it take Sunwater to review my submission?

Sunwater Customer Support aims to review submissions to the water trading board within three business days.

Someone has included an incorrect phone number on their listing, can Sunwater help me contact the owner of the listing?

When creating a listing, users will progress to a review page where they are required to check the details that they have included in the form are correct before submitting for approval. Sunwater does not take responsibility for incorrectly entered phone numbers. To update the listed phone number, owners of the listing can login and navigate to My Listings, then ‘Edit’ and can update the phone number before resubmitting the form.

Will Sunwater-owned allocations available for temporary or permanent trade be advertised through this platform?

Sunwater’s allocations (both for temporary and permanent trades) will only be made available on the Water Exchange platform via Sunwater’s water broker, RuralCo and will not be advertised on the water trading board, as required by Sunwater’s Water Trading Code of Conduct.

Sunwater’s volumes available to trade for the current water year can be found on Sunwater’s Temporary Transfers webpage.

Why does the platform not offer the option to purchase or sell unsupplemented water?

The purchase and sale of unsupplemented water, water which is not reliant on infrastructure to store or distribute it, is managed by the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRDMW). Sunwater manages supplemented water provided by way of water infrastructure. For information regarding trading or purchasing unsupplemented water, click here.

Why has my listing expired?

When creating a listing, users must select a date of expiry for their ad, at least one day in the future. Once a listing is approved for publishing on the water trading board, users will receive an email seven days prior and one day prior to their listing expiring. To extend the lifetime of your listing, login to the platform and navigate to My Listings then ‘Edit’ and extend the expiry date. To remove a listing from the water trading board before the expiry date, navigate to My Listings and select ‘Delete’.

Will I be charged for placing an ad?

No. Use of the water trading board is free.

Will Sunwater profit from the water trading board?

The water trading board acts as a free platform to connect water buyers and sellers. As there are no costs associated with accessing the platform or creating a listing, Sunwater does not profit directly from uptake of the platform.

Why has Sunwater not linked in with other existing online water trading platforms?

The Sunwater Water Trading Board provides a platform for the trade and purchase of supplemented water from Sunwater Water Supply Schemes. The platform does not integrate with other water trading websites as it is specific to Sunwater schemes and our processes.
